Revive a life Uganda History
2006
Since our first visit to the orphanage in 2006 we have supported the children and tried to raise awareness of their plight. Due to the financial support of people who gave that year we were able to pay the rent on the land and buildings, employ a full time team in Uganda to take care of the children's day to day needs, to provide food and to provide basic medical aid for the treatment of malaria and other illnesses the children suffered from.
2007
2007 was a fantastic year. We supplied bunk beds, mattresses and mosquito nets for all the children. We also built a baby unit that will sleep 30 babies, so that these babies can be looked after separately and given age appropriate care.
A major step forward was that we gained access to a water pump on the site. We also had the toilets re-bored and renovated so that they were usable again.
We were able to purchase the land and the buildings from the landlord and continued monthly support for the day to day running of the orphanage and care of the children. Unfortunately in the October we discovered that the land and buildings did not meet the government regulations of Uganda, due to the amount of children on site. However this turned out to be a blessing in disguise, and in partnership with the local town council and the government office of health, we replaced the original 2 acre site with a new 15 acre site. This plot is in Buyego, still in the district of Luwero and gives us amazing opportunities for extension that would never have been possible on the original site.
2008
In early 2008 a team went out to visit the new site. Medical checks were carried out by an experienced nurse and each child was profiled to ascertain age, health and background. We received a donation for the rebuilding of the school and we financed the building of a new toilet block. The team were also involved in the planting of vegetable seeds, kindly donated by Suttons seeds, and the full time staff were educated in farming the land and growing their own food.
